| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked at the end of Gould Road, there was no one there when we arrived around 9 and a couple of other cars and a moped when we returned around 1 pm. We originally wanted to park at the end of Thiel Road and hike the Thunderbolt Trail from there but discovered that Thiel Road is closed with Jersey barriers right after the intersection with Gould Road. We could have parked roadside and roadwalked the mile or so to the trailhead but instead opted to take the Bellows South Trail aka Bellows Pipe Ext from Gould Road. I don't know why Thiel Road is closed. |

One minor one on David's Pass. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few stepovers that do not present a problem. One fairly significant blowdown on David's Pass that was a squeeze-through. Some parts of Thunderbolt and Bellows could use a little brushing with some picker bushes encroaching a bit. Not real bad, maybe next year. Otherwise the trails are excellent. |

As mentioned above we originally wanted to take the Thunderbolt Trail from the road but it turned into the Bellows South Trail to Thunderbolt to AT to the summit. Coming down instead of taking the Thunderbolt (damp and slick and steep) we took the Bellows Pipe Trail, past the shelter (some idiot burned a big hole in the floor. I guess they didn't see the fire ring they could have used). Then when we got back to the Thunderbolt we took a right back up the hill, crossed the wide skier's bridge and then a left on David's Pass. (just for variety in order to bypass part of Thunderbolt we already saw on the way up). This goes down into a ravine, crosses a brook and then back up to Thunderbolt. Interestingly, David's Pass has a bypass of its own it looks like, David's Pass East. Or at least it used to, this East thing doesn't look like anyone at all has used it in years, it isn't even a herd path anymore. It would be an actual bushwhack. So I don't know why the signage is there. |
