Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Some of the crossings of Morrison Brook on Caribou Trail were tricky. The water was high due to rain in the morning and in recent days. Used submerged rocks at times and crossed at points either upstream or downstream of the true path to take advantage of the best rocks. Water crossings on the Mud Brook Trail were not difficult.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in generally good condition. Some drainage work would help divert water off the trail. Short sections of the upper parts of the Caribou Trail require brushing out of the hobblebush branches. There is a birch tree across the Mud Brook Trail that will need to be axed. I sawed up some smaller trees on the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None today. Should be fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Not very bothersome today.

Comments
Comments: At 6:30AM I checked the radar image and a line of rain was heading towards Evans Notch so I delayed departure for the hike. The morning rain recharged Morrison Brook so the falls and cascades along the Caribou Trail were flowing strongly. All the vegetation was wet and there was plenty of mud on many stretches of trail.
Take care to spot the very small cairns on the open ledges of Caribou Mountain ledges. There are very few blazes on the ledges. Unfortunately no views today. Bog Laurel and Labrador Tea in bloom on the ledges.
Spotted a black bear down low on the Mud Brook Trail. It retreated once it was aware of my presence.
Had a pleasant conversation with a couple from Bridgewater Ma on the summit of Caribou Mountain.
