Comments
Comments: Just an absolute perfect day to be in Baxter. Peak foliage, sunny and 50's, wind less than 10 mph. My first time there. Helon Taylor and Knife Edge is the single best trail I've been on ever. More an experience than a hike.

There is a rather large black bear hanging out feeding just under the Knife Edge. I saw his picture near Pamola in the BDN and we missed seeing him by 5 minutes when he was just under South Peak in one of those 75 degree gulleys. The group coming the other way saw him and he spooked out. How he can get in those ravines is beyond my understanding of bear physics.

We saw several women finishing their NOBO hike. Pretty cool to be there for that. Saddle trail coming down sucks. Loose rock everywhere and then you are stuck in some stunted birches.

Can't wait to go back next year. Forget the Whites, Baxter is where it's at.
