Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Redington, ME
Trails
Trails: Logging roads
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, August 20, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: CVR was in better shape than the last time I hiked this mountain. The sinkhole mentioned in my August 11, 2012 report has apparently been filled in with a big rock. Parking is available for half a dozen or so cars at gate just before metal bridge.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Almost none.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: This ascent does not use maintained trails. So there are no signs, but previous hikers have built cairns and placed a few wooden (and, in one case, stone) arrows on the ground. In addition, there is orange or pink plastic tape in places that help you spot turns, although tape in some places can be confusing because it's there for other reasons. Upper part of trail is significantly overgrown, though still passable. (Unfortunately, I forgot to take to pruning shears along.)
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Very little problem due to steady breezes.

Comments
Comments: If you want to ascend Redington this way, follow the good directions on Adrian Payeur's website (http://adrianpayeur.com/Redington.php) and also consult the August 1, 2010 trip report on Andrew Lavigne's website (http://alavigne.net/Outdoors/ImageGallery/2010/08-01-Redington/). The summit offers no panoramic views, but there are good views from places on the summit to the Crockers, Bigelow and (I think) mountains in Canada. Also good views on the way down of Abraham and Spaulding.
