Caribou Valley Rd. was plowed for 1/4 mi from Route 27 for a logging sideroad. Instead of CVR walk, we chose to park at the Sugarloaf Golf Course and walk the steep, icy hill down to the pumping station. We crossed the small bridge over the river and up the hill to hole #11 where we started our bushwhack to the CVR, coming out just below mile 3. We walked the road which was somewhat packed down by snowmobiles (not a lot of activity though) to the AT. Trail jct was marked by flagging tape. Followed the AT which was easy to follow since there was one small descending snowshoe track from several days prior. Bushwhack over to Redington starts with a steep descent with flagging along the route. We took a left on the road which was well used by snowmobiles, then took a right to ascend Redington on ATV path which seemed to go quickly. We retraced our tracks back to the road and headed toward Caribou Pond but ended up bushwhacking to make a shortcut back to CVR which we hit at mile 6. Followed CVR back to mile 3 and repeated the bushwhack to the golf course. Snow was generally 18 inches deep and we wore snowshoes most of the day. |
