It was a beautiful, clear day so I planned on attempting North and South Crocker. I left from the AT parking lot on Route 27 and found the first mile and a half packed. About a mile in I switched from microspikes to alpine snowshoes as I was tired of the slippage. The rest of the route was unpacked, only a few inches down low but knee high in places near the summit. I was thoroughly exhausted by the time I reach North Crocker and since the trail between the peaks was also not broken out I decided to leave it for another day. The trail should be fairly well packed now with freezing overnight, so take advantage of it and laugh at the places where I fell (I even did a faceplant in the middle of the trail). I will follow up with a full trail report on my blog. |
