| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking is at a small lot marked by a big boulder (room for 3-4 cars) approx. 4 miles from Route 16/27. After that it is snow-mobiles only. It is a 2-2.5 miles easy walk along the snow-mobile trails to the TH.
Rapid Stream Road is in good condition. Winterish but easy driving. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All bridged - but bridges are sketchy. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A handful of large blowdowns (walk-around, under, over).
Quite a lot of debris on the trails - removed as much as I could. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Hard going in the dense snow on the trails below tree-line. Above tree-line hard crusted areas are hazardous to canines. I recommend leaving the pups at home. |

| Comments: |
No travel on these trails for some time. 2-4" of dense, somewhat consolidated snow at lower elevation increasing to 10" or more at higher elevation. Trail is well-blazed but one sharp left-turn in a clearing is not marked with change-of-direction. I missed it and messed around for a bit before finding the trail again.
Hard crust/icy conditions above tree-line. I changed to Hillsounds and left the snowshoes behind. However, the crust is not hard/strong enough to carry and I punched through about 50% of the time. There are some exposed areas where snowshoes and/or microspikes will not provide sufficient traction. Despite the post-holing Hillsounds or crampons above tree-line in my opinion. If concerned about the exposed areas, bring ice axe. |
