I took this rainy day to do Mount Redington via logging roads and bushwhack, my first solo bushwhack. My only mistake was to do this hike on the day of the Sugarloaf Marathon. There was a group (New England Over 40, super nice people) at the parking lot when I got there heading off to do the Crockers, we also all got back to the parking lot at the same time.
Wet was the theme of the day. The trail was wet, the trees were wet and I got soaked during the bushwhack. It started to snow when I got to the summit and it wasn't long before I was cold and had to head back down. All in all it was a great day, the hike up was beautiful, a lot more enjoyable than I was expecting. There was some old snow the last mile or so to the summit, it was a little tricky with the young spruce trees blocking my view of the ground. So, it might be worth bringing some light traction. Full trail report with photos and video forthcoming on my blog. |
