Comments
Comments: There are some days that feel better than others. Wayne and I had tried to do this hike last Wednesday but his truck would not make it very far into Rapid Stream. You can't right a TR about pushing a Silverado on glare ice. When we met up on 3/13 he had a big grin and said he had driven the whole way in and much of the ice is gone. We wore spikes from parking to just below the first slide. We switched to Crampons to get over Abraham. Wayne lost a hat of his pocket and we just watched it slide down the exposed surface. Nothing worth getting killed over and no place for quick moves. Trail to the at junction was ok, we switched to snowshoes to get over to Spaulding and beyond the crust was not as thick and more snow had blown in. Lost the AT mid way through again but picked it back up by the Spaulding toilet. Lots of overhangs, better than February but no had been out for a while so we got plenty of spruce exposure. By the time we hit the last pull up to Sugarloaf we had lots of sticking and balling.
