Trails
Trails: Fire Wardens Trail, Appalachian Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, April 24, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Stratton Brook Pond Road is not accessible and it looks to me like it will be at least some weeks before it will be possible to drive to the TH. The road has a short section without snow/ice but is otherwise covered all the way. Easy enough to walk.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Many wet sections as the snow melts. Nothing difficult but wet and muddy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Maybe a dozen or so blowdowns scattered along the trail. Nothing really big or complicated but there is a good amount of clean-up work needed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Postholing in soft, deep snow will be hard work and may be hazardous.

Comments
Comments: Monorail - for whatever is left - is unstable until 1/2 mile from the ridge. Intermittent snow sections. I had snowshoes on and off a couple of times - kept them on after Moose Falls Tentsite and took them off again at this point upon my return.

Snow sections at lower elevation are 1-2'. At higher elevation 2-3' with some deeper pockets. Expect a lot of postholing and sliding around regardless of choice of footwear.
