|Hiking Trail Conditions Report|
||Elephant Mountain, ME|
|Date of Hike:
||Saturday, August 26, 2017|
|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||I made it to the trailhead 3.2 miles from the South Arm Rd with a very low clearance Civic, driving very carefully. |
||Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|Water Crossing Notes:
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||One sluggish mosquito noted in the parking area- temp 42 |
|Lost and Found:
||The usual route, described on NETC many times, is SO much easier than the more direct route I ascended in 1999, plowing through the thick spruce with knee-knocking hidden blowdown guarding the Eastern side of the summit. When I was in the School of Whack, 'real hikers' favored a direct on-bearing assault, only 'whimps' would take the path of least resistance. With experience, I am happy now to be in the latter category.|
(I'll be continuing to climb these NEHH peaks in all seasons. Don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like company or help with Winter trail-breaking).
