|Hiking Trail Conditions Report|
||Bigelow Mountain - Avery Peak, Bigelow Mountain - West Peak, ME|
||Fire Wardens Trail, Appalachian Trail|
|Date of Hike:
||Wednesday, January 17, 2018|
|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||The winter parking area is plowed and room for 3-4 cars.
A section of Stratton Brook Pond Road - about a 1/4 mile in - is washed out. Water and unstable ice. The road will not be drivable before this is repaired in Spring. |
||Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular |
||Snowshoes, Skis |
|Water Crossing Notes:
||Open Water in a couple of the (minor) crossings. |
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||A few blowdowns and leaners on all the trails in the saddle - near the tentsite. Can cause a bit of navigational confusion. A few extras further down the Fire Warden tr. Nothing troublesome. |
||Good conditions for dogs. |
|Lost and Found:
||I skied past the Pond to where the trail starts heading up. Changed over to snowshoes and kept them on until I returned and changed back to skis. |
Trails have been travelled but are not consolidated. Perfect for snowshoes. A couple of icy spots on the steep section between Moose Falls Tentsite and the saddle but overall very little ice.
Avery Peak above treeline is "boney".
