Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: This weekend no problems! Plenty of parking at Jordan pond and in the north lot, won't be that way for long!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only real crossings are on deer brook trail which are all easy
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some of the bog bridges on Jordan pond trail are getting a bit dated, loose and a few have holes but NPS is on top of it, they are in the process of rebuilding the long stretch on the west side - there is a detour around the area they are currently working on.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: An easy canine hike and met many out today. Note on our route there is no water for 5+ miles until you head down deer brook so bring some along for the long stretch along the top. Per park rules, dogs must be on a leash
Bugs
Bugs: A nice breeze kept them away today

Comments
Comments: For those wanting to visit Acadia early May is the time to go - met a few people out on the ridges but didn't hit any significant crowds until down to Jordan pond. Nothing but sunny skies and endless views all day. A breeze even kept us cool. We opted to take the long route over these summits to add in some additional ridge walking. At the point where the trail crosses the carriage road (.3 miles in) most continue up the steep spring trail to reach the ridge in .2 miles but doing do means you're missing a great stretch of trail. Take a left on the carriage road and walk a little less than a mile to the start of the Penobscot trail on the right (sign). You'll pass over one of the carriage road bridges along the way. The trail goes up gently for a mile to the upper junction with the spring trail past a number of great viewpoints. We continued on over Penobscot and hopped on the Sargent South ridge to the summit of Sargent Mountain. We backtracked to the col between Penobscot and Sargent and took the deer brook trail down enjoying the nice walk along the brook - They did a major reconstruction on this trail a few year back so it is a joy to descend. As it crosses the carriage road deer brook drops you off at another carriage road bridge - on the way down to Jordan pond you'll get a great view as you pass below the bridge. Trail was nice and dry with the only mud in the short detour on Jordan pond trail where they are replacing the bog bridges. One of my finer hikes in Acadia!
