Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Part of the trail before the pond is a small stream bed. There are plenty of non-slippery rocks to stay dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: 2 minor blowdown on either side of Bald Mt. Speckled Mt has 2 moderate blowdowns with some limbs suspended above the trail. Easy to avoid overall, but be aware.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Very dry day made the water bottles drain quickly. Several streams for dogs to drink from, but the last one is just past Bald Mt. I would plan on having water for your dog if you push onward to Speckled Mt.
Bugs
Bugs: The gnats were swarming a bit, would've been worse if it wasn't dry as a bone and sunny with no leaves. Got exactly 1 biting black fly.

Comments
Comments: Great day to be out. Trail is in awesome shape, with the exception of the noted blowdowns. Not muddy or wet outside of the usual spots before you make it to the pond. Once you get up onto Speckled Mt, be mindful to follow the cairns, they aren't always easy to follow. We were alone on the trail as soon as we got past Bald Mt. There's still a snow bank at the edge of the pond and we managed to find another below to summit of Speckled Mt in full sunshine!
