Hiking Trail Conditions Report

Peaks White Cap Mountain, Hay Mountain, West Peak, Gulf Hagas Mountain, ME
Trails
Trails: Roads, White Brook Trail, Appalachian Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, September 2, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We left a car at Gulf Hagas parking and left another just past the High Bridge on the way in to White Brook Tr. Small cars will not make much (if any) headway past the bridge, making for a long road walk to the trail. Some vehicles may get higher, but the road is tight and there are lots of hidden rocks.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most are removing shoes to get across the West Branch of the Pleasant River. It's fairly low and slow, but wide, so no issues without shoes. We both tried to rock hop, but both ended up dunking a boot.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The White Brook Tr. is a bit rough due to its poor access. The road walk in has no markings at all. Starting at the trailhead, it is reasonable to follow and had some sign of recent maintenance. Most important note is that it's a long walk in to the 'trailhead.'

Comments
Comments: We road walked up to the White Brook Tr. and took it up to the AT; the out-and-back to White Cap and south on the AT all the way to KI Road. White Cap has a great view while other peaks are mainly wooded. We popped just off trail looking for a highpoint on both bumps of Hay, but it's essentially on trail. The high ended up being about 20 mi.
