Had a limited amount of time, so I was looking for something shorter while still being a solid hike, and this delivered. Hike up to East Royce was steep and rocky, views were fantastic, but the wind was relentless and biting. The hike along the Connector and the first part of Royce Trail until it meets Basin Rim is pretty flat and relatively easy. The hike up West seems easier than the climb up East, but the wind was even worse. Views weren't as good as East, but still nice. Just off the trail at the summit is the base of an old tower, was a nice place to eat lunch(quickly, though, because that wind was cold). Another awesome day in Evans Notch. |
