| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The road walk from the north end of the half loop to the south end is hellish. 7+ miles! |
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Significant, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The Grafton Loop Trail has 8-10 crossings that are impossible to rock hop. The water is generally less than knee deep so there is no danger. Just be prepared to get wet. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Grafton Loop Trail is difficult to follow at times coming off of Long Mountain. There are several old logging roads that were not properly blocked off. We tried to fix the most difficult of the bunch. There are also a couple places where double blazes wold help at turns. The key is to always be on the lookout for blazes. The area just below the Baldpate campsite had a number of big blowdowns. These were avoidable but finding the trail afterwards took a little effort. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Sheep loved it. There is one section of trail with iron rungs where he needed a boost. The ladders were all easily traversed. Your dog better like to swim. There are lots of crossings. |
| Bugs: |
Horrible down low at the start of the hike (south end of loop trail). They were fine above 2500 feet. |

| Comments: |
Was planning the full Grafton loop but bad conditioning caused me to quit after the East side. The road walk was long but preferable to more climbing for me |
