| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Drove all the way to second parking lot, which is at the official trailhead. No regular passenger car should have issues getting here. Beyond here, high-clearance cars can make it to the pond with care. Did see an older Buick sedan at the pond too, so I guess if you really want, most cars can get to the pond. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossing at Stratton Brook Pond was rock-hoppable with dry boots. Nothing else of consequence on this route. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Decent shape overall, a few eroded spots on Fire Warden's Trail above Horns Pond split, but nothing major. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Didn't see any, but I don't forsee this route being any harder than most other 4k hikes. Decent amount of water here and there, though a little thin on the ridge. |
|
| Bugs: |
Mosquitoes down low until about 2500 feet or so. Had to break down and put on bug spray in AM before leaving the trailhead, didn't bother reapplying on exit though. NOTHING on the summits, though I suspect the stiff winds helped there. |

| Comments: |
My first major ME hike, and first ME 4Ks. Pessimistic weather forecast (rain, scattered t-storms) but we ended up with a lot of blue sky with some clouds. A bit warm, and a bit hazy, but those are really the only complaints I can come up with, the weather was great! Awesome views from both Bigelow 4K peaks, and both Horns peaks as well. Horns Pond looks like a nice spot to spend a night. This hike rivals anything I've ever done! |
