Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing worth mentioning. Only the lower crossing by ME 4 is large, and it has a metal bridge over it.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Overall in good shape, just one thing of concern: the wood staircase not far above the bridged crossing (so maybe 1/4 mile from the road) has rickety treads, so tread carefully.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine dog walk, just bring water once above Eddy Pond, there's nothing on the ridge. Also, please keep them off the Alpine Vegetation.
Bugs
Bugs: Nothing

Comments
Comments: 14.6-mile out-and-back on the AT from the highway. Steady climb but a couple steep spots: one coming shortly after Piazza Rock Campsite, and the North side of Saddleback itself. The first has good footing, and the second has super views but a couple holes in the trail to be aware of. Awesome hike, with roughly 3 miles of above-treeline hiking, ridge is much like the Southern Presis in NH (just a much deeper col). Great cap to finish off the Rangeley-Stratton 4Ks, I hope to return someday not terribly far out.

Lots of NOBO thru-hikers in Maine the last couple weekends. Must have gotten an early start with the early Spring.

Pics/full TR coming soon at my blog.
