Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water levels very low today, all crossings hoppable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Maintained sections of trail in good shape, a bit muddy in spots, but not bad. The former north branch of the Wright Trail had a couple very muddy sections, and a bunch of step over and duck under blowdowns. I heard that it was closed due to erosion, but there wasn't much evidence of it that I saw. Wish the MBPL would come in and rehab this section of trail, it was still pretty nice in its current condition... but would be better if maintained.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Two groups headed up with two dogs a piece, never did see them.
Bugs
Bugs: Minimal and not bothersome.

Comments
Comments: What a fantastic day to do Goose Eye. Cruised up to the tent sites, and we made the spot decision to check out the abandoned north fork of the Wright Trail. There were some extremely muddy sections, and plentiful blowdowns (of all varieties), but I did not see the erosion that supposedly was the reason for it being abandoned. Trail is still fairly easy to follow (except in one spot where it appears to continue uphill, when in fact it turns right, descends, and crosses a small stream), with some old faded blazes visible in spots. Enjoyed spectacular views from both peaks, and then retreated down the south branch and back to the cars. It was a very windy day, and just before East Peak, we both put on a layer... fall is definitely in the air!
