Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy rock-hops where not bridged
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails all clear, but the closed old routes of the Chimney Pond Trail need to be blocked better so people don't use them as much, it's obvious several of them still get use and a couple are easy to wander onto instead of the actual trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No pets allowed in Baxter State Park.
Bugs
Bugs: None of consequence, just a few here and there at Chimney Pond.

Comments
Comments: Drove up and hiked in on Monday night (8-27). 2 nights at Chimney Pond. We waited out the bulk of the rain in the morning and set out at 11:30AM (cut-off for departure to Katahdin is 12PM from Chimney Pond). One downpour shortly before we hit the Saddle Slide, and a quick sprinkle near the bottom of Hamlin Ridge, not bad overall. Up top the ridge was in the fog and it was pretty windy (20s mph with gusts to upper 30s). Made it to the summit where we saw the only people we saw the whole day past Chimney Pond (many turned back late morning). Descent down Hamlin Ridge was spectacular as we quickly dropped below the fog and the views are tremendous, but slow going with the rough footing. Back to camp around 5PM.

Side note: lots of alpine blueberries from the Saddle up to Hamlin's summit, all along the trail. They are ripe right now, and taste great!
