| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
no major water crossings to contend with but lots of water on the trail and on rock slabs and ledges |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The Middle Moat summit area especially the section between South and Middle Moat is very sparsely blazed and just a few random cairns. The section descending Middle Moat towards North Moat appears newly blazed and is easy to follow now. I did hear others commenting the trail was hard to follow from the lot to South Moat but that may have been thanks to all the fallen leaves. No new or significant blowdowns noted. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Lots of water today but generally not reliable on the section from South Moat to North Moat. Beware: The hunters are out in these woods! |
| Bugs: |
minor to non-existent |

| Comments: |
Very slow going today with all the wet leaves, rocks and slabs. Also lots of standing water on the trail between Middle Moat and North Moat (my intended destination but turned back at the junction with Red Ridge trail). Hiking across the ridge there was lots of gun fire rising up from the valley. Encountered a bow hunter in the woods near the junction of the old and new trail about a mile from the parking lot. Blue went off trail down the old path and I followed him... was happy he was wearing his bright orange vest and me a bright pink backpack! |
