Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I think I was the only vehicle parked at Castle Tr today. Very few cars at Appalachia as well.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Small Patches, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of the Israel River required care with ice on some of the rocks.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails were in overall great shape. There were a few blowdowns but none were difficult to navigate. Leaving the summit of Madison, the Watson Path required some care to follow. It is also lightly used between Valley Way and Scar Tr.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie completed her second round of NH4Ks today on Mt Jefferson. Castle Tr required me to give her a couple of boosts rather than take any unnecessary risks. Conditions above treeline were good for canines today although a little more snow to fill in between the rocks would help out the beating that their paws get. There was very little water along this route and almost everything above treeline was frozen.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Matt lost a Yaktrax somewhere along the last mile of Valley Way.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day in the Northern Presis! Full sun, temps averaging in the upper 20s, and the only real wind to speak of was at the very peak of the summits. We saw just over a dozen people and two dogs. We had each summit to ourselves with the exception of a pair that departed Adams a few minutes after we arrived and were surprised not to see many others on these peaks with such great weather. Thanks to Matt D for an enjoyable hike and the car spot to make this a mini traverse.
