Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: plenty of parking at the pulloff across from the Cabin Trail Trailhead, tho, NOTE: roads through Sandwich (113, 113A) were white-knuckle - very little treatment and VERY slippery
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: no major issues - quite a few crossings but the snow/ice was not slippery, surprisingly - probably due to the cold 20F temps?
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several Trail junction signs missing: the sign on Old Paugus Trail .4 mi north of Whitin Brook not signed for spur to east; the sign on Old Paugus Trail to Bee Line was missing - holes were obvious in the tree. Also, due to lack of markings in the Wilderness, I didn't realize that the cairn midway up the gully on Old Paugus Trail was indicating to leave the gully - I figured, "GO UP GULLY" It got really steep and slippery over the huge icy rocks and ice waterfalls.... by the time I realized I was on a bushwhack, it was too steep to go back down... GRRRRR - found the trail at the top of the knoll behind a bunch of blowdown patches - OUCH... but, the top of Old Paugus looks abandoned as well in terms of blowdowns... also, Whitin Brook Trail was filled with mid-height HUGE blowdowns. Some required crawling on my stomach.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: would be fine - lots of water

Comments
Comments: Interesting loop - wasn't sure what to expect on these trails - lots of obstacles!!! But, very fun!!! See some pictures per the link below. I think fall is as good a time as any to explore these areas. Note: I also had some trouble finding the trail north of Big Rock Cave. Very little traffic it seems beyond the cave.
