Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: limited room at the Drakes Brook Tr and it hadn't been well-plowed since the last storm. Make sure you have snow tires if you park up there!!!! I almost got stuck.

Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts, Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: snow bridges at base of Drakes Brook and Sandwich Mtn Trail - so no issues
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Sandwich Mtn Trail- I'm sure this has been written up before, but, there are a LOT of blowdowns - probably around 10 massive ones. Maybe wouldn't be an issue if snow were low but snow was DEEP and trying to find my way around the blowdowns I sank up to my hips at times...

Comments
Comments: Interesting day for this peak. I did the loop clockwise: up Drakes, down Sandwich Mtn. Followed a snowshoe track up to about 2K'. Then, the trough was completely filled in. Along the Ridge, snow was DEEP and TEDIOUS. Knee-deep drifts at times; 8-10" heavy wet snow. I did NOT leave a good snowshoe track because it was so deep and heavy. Took me over an hour to do the 1.3 mi along the ridge (I pondered turning back because I just wasn't feeling like doing it but I was already up there.....) Down the Sandwich Mtn Trail - ski tracks/herringbones below about 3K' - now THAT would be TOUGH!!!!! No views from the top but the outlooks on the descent were scenic! Nice day! Never saw a soul!
