Comments
Comments: Temps around 30, light wind from E., so we wore gaiters over hiking boots and Hillsound trail crampons. These proved adequate for walking on the old packed track with a few inches fresh powder. Snow still covers most ice flows for which this trail is famous. Full packs and short steps and we summitted from summer trailhead in an hour 15 mins. Barlow trail well drifted over so we descended as we climbed.
Warm temps and light wind made this hike a delight compared to earlier in the season. Overcast at 2900' with dry snow falling the whole time was a sublime experience especially at treeline.
