This morning the snow pack down low was fairly firm. Barebootable to the left turn for the traverse. Snowshoes required for the climb to Starr King and for the rest of the way to Waumbek and back. The snow was softer and bare boots would have made post holes just like the ones already there. Trail from Starr King to Waumbek whacks the ridge straight across, which eliminates all the PUDs. Nice track. Met up with Mark (Silverfox) on the way back down and two other hikers behind him. Four sets of shoes should smooth the track out a bit. Fairly nice day with no wind and mild temps. The sun was even trying to show its face. |
