Comments
Comments: Trails were well-packed up to the Passaconaway east loop. Microspikes until climbing started on Passaconaway cut-off, then snowshoes the rest of the day. Broke out the East summit loop up to Passaconaway summit, then enjoyed well packed trails down to Rollins and across to Whiteface. Followed Bryan's tracks on Kate Sleeper trail to East Sleeper - a BIG thanks to Bryan for breaking out this section and doing an awesome job route finding through this tricky mess. We knew about (and had seen) the massive blowdown destruction from Sandy - it defies description and was amazing to see again in winter. The deep snow helped cover up the worst. It will be a massive effort to make this trail passable again in spring/summer. See Bryan's report for more details. From East Sleeper, we broke the rest of the Kate Sleeper Trail to South Slide. Route finding was a bit tricky in spots. Better snow conditions than we expected, sunk in 6-12", crusty heavy snow. Snow on the slides was soft, heavy and sticky - had some fun rolling giant snowballs down the slide. Saw evidence of butt sledding down the south slide - they seemed to have come up that way - tracks turned around just past south peak. Broke out to Middle Tripyramid, and was glad to find well packed trail from there to Pine Bend Trailhead.

Warm sunny day with great views and wonderful company. Thanks to Heather & Kali, Cynthia, Steve (Little Brown Mushroom), and Megan for an awesome adventure in the woods. Special thanks to Bryan for his tracks up East Sleeper. Nice to see Guy and Gary on the trail too.
