Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two stepovers early and a couple leaners were no problems. Some low branches in a place or two, also no problem.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great day to be a dog. Even up on top in the wind and blowing snow the mighty tough little dog had a ball tearing up and down the windpacked trail. We met Buddy, a big friendly, who seemed to be having fun too.

Comments
Comments: Two large groups of hikers and quite a few couples were on the trail. Pepper sure enjoyed meeting them. A majority were barebooting up to the ridge. I think snowshoes were the most efficient on the climb, even with the trail being chopped up by booters, and on the way down they had to be the most fun and the fastest. I think hardpacked trail low gets everyone into boots or traction, but get up 20 minutes or so and the snow is loose, and deeper with altitude. On the exposed ridge the snow is windpacked and anything works.

Beautiful day out although the wind on top was pretty strong. I put on the balaclava and parka. We didn't stay long, just some picts, a shared larabar and two salutes: a sad one towards St.J for a courageous lady, and a hopeful one towards Jackson for 2 fellow schnauzer souls. Then it was boogie on down time.
