Comments
Comments: Woman from Portland bare booted up South Moat ahead of me as I started after noon. I used snowshoes for the entire hike. Trail now broken out from parking to Middle Moat. There was great variation in snow depth with some spots nearly down to the ground and nearby stretches with a foot of snow. At higher elevations there was generally deeper snow but nowhere near as deep as most of the White Mountain trails. There is a slush layer at the bottom of the snow pack which was exposed in spots. This caused a bit of slippery footing. There were drifts on the open ridge but nothing significantly deep. Not many visible blazes on the ridge and few cairns. Took a few short side trips before finding the way.
