Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There's room for 3-4 cars at the end of the plowed part of Baker Rd., where the Cross Rivendell Trail crosses. Nobody else there all morning today.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder, Ice - Blue, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Few streams, and all crossings are easy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: On the AT there are a few pretty challenging blow downs; and it was tough to follow in a few spots, since nobody had been there in quite a while. That section between Smarts and Cube never gets much traffic, other than AT hikers. Cross Rivendell is in great shape, though its a little tricky finding it from the summit, without the benefit of the blazes (painted on the rocks).
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None.

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: I got lost and found a couple times on the AT. Nothing other than that.

Comments
Comments: Baker Road to Quinntown to the AT to Cross Rivendell is a really beautiful1/2 day walk, any time of the year. Last week I climbed Smarts and my snowshoes got a free ride the whole way; today I wore them from door to door, and it was DEEP and TIRING! Just about four hours for the loop, and didn't see a soul, though there were a lot of tracks including deer, moose, dogs, hares, fishers, bobcats and some other BIG cat. No sign of any bears awake yet.beautiful, beautiful, beautiful day in the woods!
