Comments
Comments: Normally I climb Waumbek on less than ideal days -- certainly not on a Presidental or Bonds day like today. But with lists being list---today was Waumbek. Wth deep snow and the view enhancements that have occurred on Starr King and just past Waumbek summit, the views today were astounding. In fact several of us were trying to determine how many other locations there are where one can see all 8 of the Presidential summits. Great views of Castle and King Ravines, Old Speck in the distance, as well as Mansfield in Vermont. Could even see the wind towers from the summit of Waumbek through the trees. We used snowshoes or spikes. Snow was firm in the morning. Once getting to the border of hard and soft wood the snow was drier and still lots in the trees on the ridge. I wore snowshoes but folks wearing spikes did fine. Spent two hours in the sun at the viewpoints. Great to see HikerEd and Jim. Thanks to Karen and BarbaraR for a great day.
