Beautiful afternoon. Trail packed down well, rarely postholed. Wore snowshoes for a short while from upper East ledges to lower East ledges, where I put on MICROspikes again. The packed trail avoided the drop-off on the upper ledges, and I wanted to go that way for the fun of it. On the lower ledges, I met an old artist camping. He was fascinating. Check out his work at www.cunliffethompson.com. There is a painting on his site from a photo taken exactly where he was camping this time, though he got the name of the peak wrong. He wasn't big on names. He pronounced Chocorua Cha-ka-roo-a. |
