Parking/Access Road Notes: The summer lot is open - we managed to drive the road despite a few deep ruts. There were several other cars in the lot too.

Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No real water crossings to worry about - see trail maintenance notes.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The lower section of the trail is a spring mess - there is water flowing along the trail and muddy areas wherever there is a flat section of trail. The water bars are doing their job directing water off of the trail but the snow melt is too much.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn't see any dogs on the trail today but there shouldn't be any issues.
Bugs
Bugs: No bugs.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing lost, nothing found.

Comments
Comments: It was a great day to be out on the trials with the randomites (Monica, Stefanie, and Tabitha). Had some things to do with the kids in the AM so planned a later start. On the trail by 11:15 and done early enough to beat the crowds for dinner in nearby Gorham. The temperatures were mild and there wasn't any wind so we got to enjoy long breaks at both Starr King and the lookout just past the summit of Waumbek. The views of Washington and the rest of the Presidentials were fantastic. Could see the ridge line of the high peaks of VT in the distance.

The trail was muddy at the start but turned to hard pack as we climbed. Managed to go to Starr King without post holing using just light traction. I switched to snow shoes just after leaving Starr King on the way to Waumbek - the snow was soft and I was sinking on just a of every other step. The other three in the group managed to stay on top of the snow and used light traction the whole way. There were three others out on the trail (a couple in their 70's and a solo) and they were in just light traction as well.
