Comments
Comments: north weeks, hiked on 5 3 2013. started at long pond trailhead about 2 miles west of hatchery gate. inquired on the way in and was told gate would stay open. first 2 miles of trail were in real nice shape with open hardwoods, trllium and trout lily everywhere. 3 water crossing are doable, but for the meek you may need to take your boots off a couple of times. at first crossing, the board is missing at the dam. if you have a spare 8ft plank in your backpack, it would help. just before we got to the high point of land at the notch, we started seeing snow on the ground. taking a left on kilkenny ridge trail, snow depth was between 1 to 2 ft with a few pockets deeper. no bugs, beautiful weather day. obstructed views from summit. suggest snowshoes for the climb from notch to summit at least for the next 2 weeks. lots of moose sign and flushed a few grouse.
