Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Some rock hopping, but only where expected.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in good condition, and blazes are well-marked.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I brought my golden retriever / boxer mix, and she loved it! But I wouldn't take her up Holt again. Marshall did well (better than me and my human friends) on a lot of the rocks, but she couldn't make it up a few of the really steep parts on her own. I ended up giving her a boost, and scrambling up behind her, but it was tricky! If you're bringing a pup, I'd recommend taking the Holt-Clark cutoff and Clark Trail to the summit.
Bugs
Bugs: The black flies are out, but no bites.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: I lost my sunglasses!

Comments
Comments: via Holt; descent via Manning

It was my first time up Mt. Cardigan, and the views did not disappoint! Although I ran into some trouble scrambling up a couple spots, the Holt trail is really beautiful, and I'd do it again (but without Marshall).
