|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Oh they were fun today ;) Water was moving fast! Most were rock-hoppable, some required strategy and slightly wet boots, trekking poles saved me once or twice. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Definite areas of erosion and washout from Irene. There is one area in particular about halfway up to the base of the cascades where one should be cautious about getting too close to the embankment, it looks a bit unstable and crumbly. There were a few awkward large blow downs after the cascades. You know the type-can't step over, go under or around so you straddle/shimmy over them however you can. Other then that the trail is in good shape :) |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
I think even the most experienced trail dogs would have needed some help on a few the crossings today. |

| Bugs: |
A few despite the rain |

Well, the main objective of this hike was to see the cascades in all their glory which we did and it was great. The falls really put on a show! We had talked about going up to the ponds then on to the summit if we felt up to it and if the rain wasn't a deluge. We were about a half mile from Nancy pond when someone made a remark about how light the rain had been all morning at which point it started to rain harder. We were a bit concerned about the water levels rising as the day went on and having to negotiate all the crossings on the way back so we turned around. Still a great hike! Can't wait to go back and finish it! |
