Comments
Comments: Followed the directions of an older VFTT post, continuing on Franconia Brook Trail about .75 mile past Redrock Brook to pick up the railroad spur which starts there and traverses southeast up the west slope of South Twin and then turns into Redrock Ravine. At it's end we moved uphill about 30 ft to a skidder road which eventually becomes a more or less discernible herd path and then joins up with Redrock Brook, continuing along its left (northwest) side. About .75 mile from the pond, we elected to 'whack straight uphill through open woods to avoid the side hilling herd path. Took this to about the elevation of the pond and then traversed to it. The last 150 ft to the pond was very thick. On the descent we elected to stay near the stream and pick up the herd path. Met a party of three coming up the herd path to spend the night at the pond. So much for the pond being a "best kept secret" in the Whites. When the railroad spur turned north after exiting the ravine, we 'whacked west downslope to the Franconia Brook Trail, saving a mile or more. Thanks to Mile L. and Elizabeth for a fine day, rain and all.
