Did this overnight (yes, this short hike!) to catch the Perseids Preview (actual "big night" was an early morning for work). Just missed the beautiful Saturday evening sunset, went up by head lamp. Bottom part of trail is quite mucky in some areas, the rest good. Went to North Sugar Loaf first. Beautiful night sky, saw several meteors before falling asleep. Planned on catching the sunrise, was too tired and lazy, but Prema said it was foggy anyway. Got up a little later, fog had burned off. Dry clear morning, beautiful views all around. Went to Middle Sugar Loaf, amazing views again. Winds were a bit strong, but that's why you bring your sweater! Nice trip down, seeing the trail in broad daylight (actually, we did this in 2004 - nice to see the trail is still so nicely cared for, thanks). |
