Trails
Trails: Sandwich Mountain Trail, Jennings Peak Spur, Drakes Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, August 24, 2013
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Full lot by 9am, due to a large group from (i believe) Meetup.com. There is not a lot of room on the summit, so this can be sort of annoying if a large group happens to be there...
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings of Drakes Brook easily rock-hopped on both trails.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Couple of large (>12") blowdowns on the last 1-mile section of Sandwich Mt. Trail. Herd paths forming around them.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: On Sandwich Mt. Trail, there was no water after the Drakes Brook crossing at the very beginning. Obviously there's plenty of water along Drakes Brook Trail. No real difficult sections for pups.
Bugs
Bugs: none

Comments
Comments: First time up this near-4000 footer. Great views at first look-out near Noon Peak. Top has nice views too, but trees are starting to encroach on the view of the Whites to the north. Obstructed views of Winnipesaukee to the south. Recommend heading up Sandwich Mt Trail and then down Drakes Brook in a sort of "inverse lollipop" style loop. Returning down Drakes Brook trail, once you get down to the brook, the last 2-miles are old skid-road, very gradual, and a real joy to finish the hike with. Watch out for the springs though, there are some pretty deep mud-pits... So deep that Norman put on his tallest pair of "Black Socks" ever, they went all the way up to his belly.
