Comments
Comments: i decided to just take a direct bearing on the summit which meant crossing over a ridge and drainage before climbing the peak. though it worked out fine it did mean dodging some cliffs and pushing through some thick spruce growth as i crossed over and into the southwest running drainage. from there is was an initially steep climb with a couple more cliffs into increasingly scrappy woods with a fair amount of rotted blowdown underfoot. though not awful it was the toughest going of the bushwacks i had done today. i reached the border swath a bit west of the summit and walked the swath a short distance before heading back into the woods and to the highpoint. in this area the swath was rough and overgrown and not too pleasant to walk. descending i took a line that would bring me back to the road south of the ridge i crossed over on the way up. one cliff to dodge dropping into the drainage and some of the same difficult footing, but otherwise a pretty nice descent that brought me back to rt. 3 a couple minutes south of my car at the boat launch.

another good bushwack to finish off the day. still quite wet in the woods and this peak was especially dank and mossy up high. i had pondered hiking up the swath from the border crossing, but after seeing the condition of the swath up there i was glad i didn't. the woods in the drainage and near the road were full of moose paths and lots of fresh sign. some nice views across the lake post hike as things opened up. got some good views from the boat launch at second connecticut lake on the ride home as well. great day up north.
