Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: from a bit north of lake francis on rt. 3 i turned left onto day road, which became perry stream road, driving for a total of about 11.7 miles from the highway to the end of the drivable portion of perry stream road. at this point there is a dilapidated bridge and some room to park just before. the road was in good shape with some relatively minor rough spots and potholes. at about 10.3 there is a culvert that looks to be headed for failure, but can still be driven over with care at this point.

Comments
Comments: i continued up the road on foot to an old landing area. at this point the summit of perry ponds peaks was almost directly to the east. i headed up through an area of scrubby low growth full of moose paths and beds eventually hitting more mature woods that were generally open up to the ridge a bit south of the summit. i continued north up to the highpoint then down to a col where i slabbed northwest up towards the border swath in a pretty direct line towards west prospect hill. once off the ridge of perry ponds, which was scrappy and had some blowdown, the woods to the swath were nice and open with a fair amount of wet footing. once on the swath east of the peak it was pretty overgrown with a faint herdpath over a sub peak then a four wheeler trail joined the swath from canada and the footing improved, with one steep rough drop, up to the summit of west prospect. on the descent i dropped directly down from the summit towards the end of perry stream road through generally open woods with wet and swampy footing at times eventually picking up the extension of the road i had walked earlier in the day.

a beautiful morning up north. loads of moose sign on the lower slopes of perry ponds peak and i heard more than one moving off as i pushed up through the undergrowth. great views from the border swath and beautiful woods on the descent. a really nice area.
