Date of Hike: Monday, October 21, 2013
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The road to the trailhead is a Class 6 unmaintained road (Hedgehog Mtn Road). At the beginning of the unmaintained section (from Old County Rd.), there is a flooded part that requires some care to negotiate. I recommend skirting the edge of the mini-pond (that is, if you have a high-clearance vehicle; otherwise, park before the flooded part and walk. Now that I think about it, the road is rough in parts, so if you have a small/low clearance car, park and walk). The road is obviously unplowed in winter, so a winter attempt will require extra walking both ways.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A slight muddy/wet area across the trail requires some thinking about foot placement. Otherwise, no major water crossings.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail appeared to be reasonably well-maintained except for a few downed trees and some rocky, well-eroded parts.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not a soul on the trail, and no signs of civilization except for an excavator across from the parking area.
Bugs
Bugs: Non-existent.

Comments
Comments: I'm surprised how unknown this peak is; it is definitely well-worth the hike! The only info I could find was on the SPNHF site, and even so, it didn't state the exact location of the trailhead; I didn't see it on either maintained section of Hedgehog Mtn Road, so I drove down the unmaintained section of it and then saw the sign for the SPNHF property.
