Comments
Comments: Little to no snow for nearly the first 1.5 miles. Patchy snow and monorail starts somewhere around 2,700 feet, and wall to wall snow coverage begins immediately when the trail hops into the spruce woods - instantly 2 feet of snow, increasingly to 3-4 feet up high. Snowshoes went on before reaching the spruce and stayed on all the way to Waumbek and back to the same point. Monorail was stable for snowshoe traffic, however barebooters will posthole (and deeply). Between the peaks, the popular route stays north (where the trail drops to the south side of the ridge) - this will be an issue in the coming weeks, as it passes over a spruce trap minefield. If you can follow my tracks (unlikely with the melting), you'll be on the trail kosher and generally out of spruce trap danger. Continued past Waumbek to the viewpoint - no sign of any tracks heading north of that on the Kilkenny Ridge Trail.
