Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Bear Mtn Road was quite icy with a little crusty snow but had been improved since last time I was there a few years ago when I had to ask a friendly person in the house at the corner of Bear Mtn Rd and Panorama Lane for a tow out of the mud!!! Still, with 4WD and snow tires, I could only drive about halfway to the trailhead due to a large blowdown across half the road. Plenty of pull-off spots to park tho!

Comments: Bear Mtn (Hebron), unnamed peak

Nice short hike in the cold - great views. Looped up about a mile northwest of Bear Mtn where I turned around for lack of time and headed back over the many ridge bumps and out via the Elwell Trail. LOTS of logging has been done northwest of Bear Mtn - the trail crossed lots of logging roads but the yellow blazes were very obvious!!!

Nice views from outlooks along the ridge!

Most of the trail was fairly crusty with just a dusting of snow and ice - I carried spikes but never felt I needed them. Careful foot placement crucial.

Parts of Bear Mtn Trail were flagged with very old tape as the trail signs (Mowglis dogs) were very well-worn. Footbeds were very light - covered in leaves and occasionally confusing These trails need a little lovin'!!!!!! Thankfully, no views/sounds of the Groton Wind Farm ("Spanish Imposition").
