Date of Hike: Friday, November 29, 2013

Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Blue
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Drake's Brook is really high and running rapidly. Every rock that can be used to cross was covered in ice. I bushwhacked to avoid crossing on Sandwich trail, but forded on Drakes Brook on the way back.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is easy to follow. The recent deluge followed by the sudden extreme drop in temperature melted much of the snow and turned sections of the trail into slippery ice luges.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a couple of friendly dogs on Drakes Brook, but all commented that Sandwich trail was too slippery for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: None til May

Comments
Comments: Sections of this trail are all ice. There's one particular section before Noon peak where the ice was boiler plate hard and super slippery. I found that my microspikes didn't grip as well as desired, but the ice wasn't thick enough for crampons. An inch of snow on top would've been much appreciated, but it was slick. Drakes Brook trail was nice - doable with or without traction... but many people turned around at the water crossing.
