A pretty day for a hike today. I started at 6:00 AM with a headlight and was on top by 8:00 AM. The trail is a little slippery down low in the trees but soon becomes dry and easy walking. There is little or no snow anywhere. On the ledges there is a little ice which you can easily go around. Once you get up on the shoulder of the mountain there is big ice and traction is a must. The trail is just one big ice flow for the last 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the tower. A beautiful day at the tower, Washington was in the clear and the views were great. Watch the ice on the steps though. A sign says to not wear spikes inside but climb the stairs before you take them off. |
