Real mixed-bag for trails this afternoon - lots of lumpy trails that are going to setup pretty rough once the slush freezes. Beyond the Brook Trail, the trail was a blank canvas of 6-8" deep wet snow. Not exactly completely sure where I was on Straightback, but, there were other snowshoe tracks in there, too. I should have bypassed Mt Major on the way back - it was a horrible slush-pool from the summit down the icy/wet slip-n-slide on the ledges where I put the snowshoes back on the pack so as not to grind down the crampons on the wet rock.
Started to really rain when I got back to the car - YAY!!! Views a little limited due to lowering rain clouds, but, fun to get back to the Belknaps and celebrate the post-winter-solstice on a sub 2K-footer :) |
