Up Spellman trail down White dot
Strange day.
• The views were fantastic.
• The day was warm and the snow was melting in buckets.
• Traction was bad.
• Getting up was ok with some challenges. Coming down was brutal.
• Used red micro-spikes and they were marginal at best. Had full crampons and left them in the car. Not a great choice.
• Had an ice ax and was better than nothing but not great value.
• Up high the rocks were wet and always felt like a trap door.
• There were piles of wet snow fields and could easily get a wet foot if not paying attention. You would sink in and the water would flow in from above the top of the boots.
• Well-fitting gaiters were a must.
• The snow was not sticking to the rocks and would blow out from under your feet
Having that been said enjoyed the day
Afraid to think what the trail will look like when the temps get colder
