Anticipating serious winds up top, we opted for Valley Way both up and down. The trail was nicely packed until maybe a mile below the hut, when drifts required the four of us to break the trail anew. The winds were indeed severe, requiring full gear including masks and goggles and a low stance. We used snowshoes to the hut, then either spikes or Hillsound Pros on the cone, which was a mix of boulders and snow. Other major trails looked also broken, including lower Airline and Randolph heading west but not Watson. |
